The Mother’s Bus Attack took place in 1988 and marked the inaugural hostage situation in Israel following the establishment of Yamam.
Three armed Palestinian terrorists hijacked a bus carrying Israeli civilian workers from the Nuclear Reseach Campus near Dimona. The majority of the passengers were women, hence the moniker “Mother’s Bus Attack”.
Tragically, one passenger was killed by the terrorists, and the remaining 11 were taken hostage. In response, Yamam swiftly executed a tactical intervention. The operation, lasting a mere forty seconds, resulted in the elimination of all 3 hijackers.
the remarkable success of this mission underscored Yamam’s unparalleled effectiveness, prompting Israel to entrust the unit with its most challenging assignments. This pivotal event solidified Yamam’s reputation as an elite force capable of handling the most demanding and high-stakes missions.
